Regular Technopole-France Schedule (no prior French)

This is a general description of the French Major and how you incorporate it year-by-year with your engineering course work. By sticking to the courses listed here, you will get your French major in the most efficient way as many of these courses also fulfill General Education requirements. There is some flexibility with those courses marked by an *, how you can move these courses around is explained below.

The French major consists of a minimum of 30 credit hours (10 courses) at the 2000 level or above in French.

NOTE:

  • French majors must take 12 FREN 3000-level credits taken in residence at UConn.
  • Students should take the three 1-credit French for Engineering classes (3101, 3102, 3103) beginning in the Fall of their sophomore year when possible, and then, sequentially, in the next spring and fall. This course is usually offered in the late afternoons and early evenings to accommodate student schedules.
  • All Core Courses must be taken at Storrs (3268/W OR 3269), 3261 AND 3262, 3257* (Note that students with near Francophone-level pronunciation may get a waiver for 3257.  If so, they will substitute it for an elective of their choice).
  • You will also need 12 credits of “related” courses (or the equivalent of 4 courses) from programs other than French but that are connected to French and Francophone cultures by taking classes that focus on the art, history, philosophy, culture, business, science, or politics of the Francophone world.  All students in Technopole France will earn 12 related credits in France.
